JAVYS plans to extend interim storage capacity for spent nuclear fuel

Nuclear and Decommissioning Company (JAVYS) plans to expand interim storage capacity for spent nuclear fuel at Jaslovské Bohunice. Project implemented in two stages will increase the storage capacity by minimum 18 600 pieces of spent nuclear fuel. Indicate costs are 46 million Euros.

At the end of 2015, 81, 7 % of current interim capacity has been utilized. Related to the development of nuclear power usage in Slovakia (prolonging operation of nuclear units for 60 years; start of operation of third and fourth unit in Mochovce), the capacity of interim storage has to be extended. Current interim capacity will be sufficient until approximately 2022.

The Ministry of Environment of the Slovak Republic has given consent to the completion of the storage capacity at Jaslovské Bohunice.
